POETRY

Ice Queen

Icicle thin beautifully chiseled
and so forbiddingly tall
Her resolve speaks of betrayal
there’s crippled love etched on her face
blonde hair ends and turned up nose
all poking out beneath hooded cloaking
aqua-blue eyes pin me I freeze
awaiting her mental command
her breath is a billowed sail
pulling us deep into the dark city cold
she limps faster than most walk
clutching her manuscript close to her breast
black bledsoe strapped calf and thigh
I hustle hard to be near her face
to behold her impassioned glare
I follow into the cathedral cell hushed
to my seat in the nave the players appear
receive their parts and she settles
close in the front row unhooded uncloaked
from her steam now arises
as with each word we thaw
we simmer in awe - as her play is told
